An open letter to the many good people working in my government. I know you’re out there. May you continue to lead the way for us.
Dear Public Official, Staff, and Government Employee,
Hello!
My name is Miggy. I am a proud Filipino citizen. In light of recent events, I felt compelled to reach out to you.
First, I wanted to say I appreciate the work you do.
You have one of the most thankless jobs in the country. It’s not easy doing your work. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be torn apart for the smallest of mistakes but given no credit when you actually get the job done. Not that you need the recognition. You’re just happy to be of service. Thank you for that.
I appreciate the long hours you spend improving and modernizing current policies. I appreciate the effort visiting far-flung communities, starting inclusive programs, and scrambling around the clock so that we can live our lives in peace. I appreciate the integrity you bring to work every single day — especially now when it seems like righteousness and common sense gets thrown out the window. Thank you for choosing excellence when everyone else around you settles for mediocrity.
Second, and most importantly, I wanted to ask you for a favor.
Keep dreaming of a better tomorrow. Please.
It’s easy to be disheartened when the people above you act the way they do, yet here you are still fighting for the country. You have every reason to walk away but you choose to serve. That’s some Avenger-esque courage right there. The heroes who came before you must be proud.
Many of us are losing hope. It’s difficult to keep spirits up when there seems to be no more regard for justice or human life. We need you to continue showing us that good people still exist in government. We need you to speak up, especially for the voiceless and for those who have been silenced.
We need you to be the light in these dark, dark times.
I know you’re just as scared as the rest of us. I don’t blame you. When any sort of resistance is suppressed, removed, or even killed, it’s hard to move forward. But you’re not going to fight this alone. Lead the way and I will follow.
Lead the way and we will follow. You can count on that.
Sincerely,
Miggy
